Aztec Fire Fuels Crew
The Aztec Fire
Fuels Crew program helps young men and
women become certified as Wildland
Firefighters. The program works in
collaboration with the US Forest Service
to provide instruction on fire
suppression techniques, fire prevention,
plant and wildlife preservation, and
safety. Participants also receive
comprehensive physical training to
increase self-esteem and leadership
skills to help prepare for a
firefighting career.
The Aztec Fire
Fuels Crew program also teaches critical
thinking skills, provides educational
guidance, and re-connects participants
to their neighborhoods through community
service projects. Through this
innovative training and employment
program, participants turn their lives
around and begin a satisfying career.
Since 1997, Aztec
Fire Fuels Crew has served over 313
clients. Of these:

100% have been
certified as Wildland Fire Fighters
-
100% activated
by the US Forest Service
-
97% have gone
onto rewarding careers in the
following fields; permanent fire
fighters, medical technicians,
construction, railroad and other
careers.
Candidate Qualifications
Participants must
be 18 years of age or older with a
willingness to learn, take orders and
serve the community. To successfully
complete the Aztec Fire Fuels Crew
program participants must:

Pass a standard medical examination
for fire suppression work;

Pass the US
Forest Service Physical Endurance
Test at the required level for the
position assigned;

Complete an 80
hour Firefighting Training Course
presented by the Aztec Fire Academy,
and;
-
Be able to
leave Los Angeles on assignment for
a minimum of 14 days.
